The hard truth about losing weight, gaining muscle and toning up is that it takes consistent weekly training over a long period of time. Implementing a long-term approach to your health and fitness goals will free you from the shackles of the short-term, fad diet, instant gratification seeking mentality.

In a market driven by decisions based on emotion, fitness consumers can be persuaded to turn to extreme diets, 4-week fat loss programs, the 6-minute ab routine and other unsustainable methods of getting in shape.

Making the decision that you are ready to implement change in your lifestyle is already overcoming the biggest challenge. But without the correct guidance, motivation can dwindle and the desire for a quick fix can cloud your logic and cause you to buy impulsively. A long term, sustainable approach to physical health is the key to developing a training and nutrition plan that works best for you.

Most of us are going to live for a long time: the average life expectancy in Ireland in 2015 was 81.5 years. We plan out our careers as best as possible and aim for consistent growth by chasing a higher position or upskilling to become better at what we do. So why wouldn’t we implement the same mindset to the upkeep of our physical health?
